Jamie's New Glasses

Jamie got some glasses on Monday. She was so excited to get them. She made sure we knew when her glasses came in and what time the store closed.
Jeffery tried on Jamie's glasses and we thought he was so cute.

Nail Clippers

I always tell Ethan to take his fingers out of his mouth because that's where they always are. Tonight when I told him he said, "My fingers are in my mouth because my teeth clip the nail." (He really did say the word "clip.") He then proceeded by showing me how it works. I said, "Ethan, that's what nail clippers are for." We all had a good laugh.

Game(s) Over

I just wanted to do one final baseball post. Baseball season is over for us and Ethan and Brock did really well. Ethan batted a 0.757 and Brock batted a 0.685. It was pretty neat to see them make progress from the start to the end. We congratulate their success and enjoyed it this past season. Here is a trophy for Ethan and Brock. Now for a break until next year.

Ethan is soooooooo happy about helping put the food away.

Funny story. Ethan would not get dressed for church so he had to bring his Sunday clothes in the van and get dressed at church. After asking him several times if he had his shirt, tie, suit coat, pants, belt, shoes and socks and getting a yes, Ethan neglected to check. He was sockless at church that day, and we were on time.

And some more pictures

16-5 Ironbirds win again

Wooohooo! The Ironbirds strike again. We played excellent tonight. The game was called after the 5th because the raptors could not come back in one inning to tie or beat the ironbirds. Ethan and brock were flawless. Ethan went 3 for 3 and Brock was 2 for 2. I know Ethan a grounder to get on his first at bat, he hit a line drive toward the 3rd baseman the second at bat and he hit a high line drive toward the second base the third at bat. He did really well. You can tell he really he is enjoying it when he does get a hit and when they win the game.
Tuesday May 19th will be the last game of the season. They will play Monday at 6 and Tuesday at 6, then that will be it for the season. Also stay tuned for the pitcher come this Monday the 18th. Jimmy said that he may not be there, so Matt will be the pitcher for that game. I hope this isn't a teaser like last time.

Yeah, an A!

I decided to see if my grade for my Modern Algebra class had been posted yet and was thrilled to find out I got an A!!!! It really is unbelievable. I wanted to scream for joy but everyone is sleeping now. Realizing recently that my college days are numbered, I've been trying to stress less and enjoy more of the classes I have left. I should finish my Bachelor degree next spring with a major in Mathematics and a minor in History. This is the easiest route I could think of when contemplating college in high school. After seeing several people change their majors which prolonged their education, I vowed to never change my major and I haven't. It has just taken me 15 years to get a bachelor's degree. Just imagine how long it would have taken if I had changed my major a few times! Anyway, I am begining to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it seems like I may just get done with school afterall.

Strep Funk

Ethan has strep throat. Maybe that is why he was in a funk on Saturday.

Getting Better

Ethan's team lost on Friday. They were in a funk. They hadn't played in several days due to the rain that we've had. Saturday, they played again and did way better. Ethan went 1 for 2 on Friday and went 2 for 3 on Saturday. He played two innings in the outfield and 4 innings as catcher. He is doing really well on hitting. On Saturday, it was in the 80's but not too hot. Ethan was getting tired and was poking around. He is getting tired of playing baseball. He's ready for it to end. We still have a week and a half left. 6 year olds have 18 games to play. I know it is crazy. It should be 10 - 12 games, but we can't change the minds of the committee, yet.
Ironbirds are now 4-9

Final is Finally Over!

I took my final last Thursday. I think I did ok and might have a B in the class. We'll see when grades are avaliable on the internet. I am now footloose and fancy free for three months so now it's playtime! Of course it is also clean-the-house-time too.

Jason said I'm suppose to write about the girls and soccer. Saturday both girls had games at 9am, but it was raining, and I thought for sure that they would cancel them. I was with Jamie in Trussville for a tournament which was only cancelled for lightning (after I saw it for the third time) and a tornado warning. They did, however, play the first game that morning in the rain. Jamie likes the idea of playing soccer but lacks the drive to run after the ball and take it away from the other team to win. She is already making plans for next year to play softball or rather tossing the idea around. When she asked me about which she should play next year, I just told her to do something she likes.

I heard Katherine played in the rain also. I think she can be very good at soccer, but her asthma slows her down sometimes. Personally, I think she could use a little more aggression in her soccer playing too. She told me that they won and played well. I'll get to see her play this Saturday at another tournament in Trussville. It's really weird though because her team will play 4 games that last 10 minutes each. I guess it is so they won't get too tired.

Jeffery is a litte mess maker. Yesterday I just watched everyone trying to keep him out of everything and was glad to have a break from it. After the nail polish all over my 14 year-old backpack and the carpet in my bedroom and the cinnamon all over the kitchen floor, I just do my best to make sure doors are locked and know what he is doing all the time. Actually, now that I think about it I realize that during both nail polish episodes, I was working on something. The first time Jeffery got into my nightstand and opened bottles of nail polish and poured it out all over the carpet and my backpack, I was making dinner early so we could go to Ethan's baseball game. I didn't have the time or patience to clean it up. I showed my classmates my backpack and they said it looked like I did it on purpose. Jeffery is a great artist. The second time (the thought did cross my mind to throw away all the nail polish after the first incident, but I just threw away what he opened and dumped all over the place) I was in the shower and stepped out of the shower when I smelled that strong odor. I was trying to get Jeffery out of that mess all over the carpet while dripping wet with and towel wrapped around me. Frankly, I didn't know which to do first, clean up the nail polish or dry myself and get dressed. All in a day's work here on the homefront.

3 and 8

This is our record. I believe the players are understanding better. Our defense is getting better and their hitting is getting better. Today we played almost a complete inning until the rains came and forced us out. The score was 3 - 1 with bases loaded and 2 outs when we had to postpone until the afternoon. Brock was on 1st and Ethan was on 3rd.
We came back at 2:30 to finish the game and we won again. The final score was 13 - 6. Ethan went 2 for 3. He really blasted the ball the 3rd time around. It went over the shortstops head. I was really proud of that.
I would have pictures but our lithium batteries went dead and Wal-mart didn't have any last night. I sure wish I had a picture or video of the ball Ethan hit, though.

Katherine played a soccer game this morning when it was raining and she did really well the first half of the game that I saw. I heard that the game score was 4 - 1 in favor of Katherine's team. Way to go, Katherine!

Wendy took Jamie to her game, but haven't heard anything on how it went plus Jamie has another game this afternoon, so I'll let Wendy update everyone on how that went.

Jeffery played with his Dump Truck really well. He made several dumps and got real dirty in the process. All we can do is contain Jeffery and the best thing to do is to let him play with the dump truck. Sometimes he likes to throw the red dirt or put it in other people's hair, but other than that he plays well with other children.

We Won Again!

The Ironbirds played really good defense. They even completed a double play. One boy hit the ball in the air and our pitcher caught the ball and threw it to first base before the runner could return from second. Hopefully we start on a streak and win a lot more. Ethan played catcher and did a good job at that position. He still doesn't understand how to play it or what to do. He did well at hitting too. The first hit was a weak swing that grounded up the middle. The second at bat was a little better. He missed the first one. The second one he made an upper cut swing and missed. I've been telling him to swing level and hard. He sometimes sees a player on his team make upper cut swings and belt it to the outfield, but I've been telling him not to make those swings because you will strike out. So, after he made the last swing I told him to swing level and swing hard and he did. He hit a line drive toward the shortstop and got on base. His cousin Brock did good, too. His first at bat was a hit toward first base side but Brock was running so slow that the pitcher had time to field it and throw it to first to get him out. Brock got another hit between shortstop and thirdbase. The Ironbirds won 15-7.
