Thanksgiving Activity
This past Thanksgiving after all the food that we ate, we were playing games and relaxing. Wendy was bored and wanted to do something more fun. So Wendy, Becky and I traveled back home and got the 4-wheeler. Wendy gave rides around the backyard then I started letting my children drive the 4-wheeler. We rode it almost until dark. Here are a few pictures of them driving, except for Jeffery of course, and one of Jeffery holding on to his cousin while riding around the yard.

Primary Activity Day
This past Saturday we had the primary activity day. We started by having breakfast - their favorite meal of the day. It included pancakes, bacon and orange juice. Then after breakfast, I (Leader of the 8 - 11 year old girls) had the children play "reindeer" games. Then they made a christmas tree ornament which looked like Rudolph. Next they played a game with two different colored balloons. The balloons were scattered in the middle and the teams had to get their own balloons in their box. The winner was the team who accomplished this first. It was chaotic but very fun.

Jeffery's ATV
Wendy and Jeffery went to a birthday party last weekend for a girl in his nursery class at church. His favorite thing at the party was the ATV. Wendy said that she had to literally drag him away, kicking and screaming, to get him to leave after the party was over. He was really not concerned with the color. This was battery operated, so he could actually drive it.

Fashion Show
Wendy had bought some clothes for the children recently and she wanted them to try them on. So she decided to do a fashion show. There was a lot of clothes involved. There are several video clips that were just too large to download, but here are some of the pictures.

Jeffery sporting a new tie.

Ethan, dancing and being goofy, with a new shirt and pants.

Katherine's new shirt and pants. She is not camera shy.

Jamie with new clothes. she strives on being picky - can be good or bad.

Houma Relief Work
Here are some picture that we took while I was in Louisiana this weekend. We were assigned to go to the Houma, La. area to help those in need. We packed up our chainsaws and my ATV. I rode down with Leroy while Paul and James rode down together later. On Saturday, there were about 12 of us in a crew that was formed from the Gardendale, Leeds, Gadsden and Birmingham 2nd Wards. I saw other members from the Locust Fork Branch as well. We had 5 work orders to complete. We did most of them before 4:00 PM on that day. One we could not complete because of the equipment and material that were required.

Here is our abode for two nights - Leroy and I.

This was our first project that we had to work on. It called for a tarp to put on the roof but we saw a dangerous tree so we asked the home owner and the neighbor if we could cut it.

Canning, part II
Saturday, we went into round 2 of canning the goods. As you can see below we had a lot to do but we did it quicker than last time. We established a pretty good program. We might have gotten done quicker if I didn't have to take a temporary time out to watch a certain football game, but it sure was a good one.

One Year Supply
We just got our shipment in about a week or two ago. Becky had it at her place so I went over and loaded it up on the truck. I should've took a picture of the truck right before I unloaded it. The food that you see is not only ours but the Smith's, too. It was easier for us to take it to our house and can it here. We have the ward canner that we use. We basically use a program of 4 - 5 people to get what we have canned and into boxes. It will be a lot of stuff to can. This past Saturday we canned 100 cans in about 3 1/2 hours time. We should get quicker as we go along.

You can see here 25 lb bags of red wheat. There is also potatoe flakes in the background. The lids are sitting on top.

Here is an example of a canned box.

Here are the cans minus 100 and 1 fatality that we found. The cans are stacked on a pallet. I pulled the pallet off of the truck using my 4-wheeler. Very easy! I'll let you know how it goes.

Horton Mill Bridge
We finally stopped at this covered bridge after passing by it so many times in the past. I haven't been here in a long time. I remember the last time that I came, we actually crossed the bridge in our car, went down to the creek and swam in the creek - Dad and the four boys.

See the flagging and the nailed boards in the background?

I didn't feel to well about walking on this bridge.

Can you see the warp in the boards?

This is a pretty picture!

The Great Escape
I just made the children go to bed and was watching TV when I heard giggling in Ethan and Jeffery's room. I decided to go see what was going on and sure enough, Ethan was standing in front of Jeffery's crib playing with him. I made him stand in the corner because he is usually ready to "really" go to bed when he is done. After he had gone to bed for the second time, I heard the door open and thought it was just Ethan going to the bathroom. It wasn't Ethan but Jeffery that walked into the living room smiling and proud of his "Great Escape" from the crib.

Virus Attack
I hate viruses. I don't know where they come from. Katherine was the first when her tummy her yesterday and she stayed home from school. She threw up during the day, but was fine by the late afternoon. Early this morning Jeffery started throwing up. He threw up twice during the night. Yuck! the smell is horrible. I hate cleaning it up, but it has to be done. I had a stomach ache ever since yesterday, too. We'll see what else comes of this.
Today is the first day of school for Wendy. She is taking a probability class and is stressed out even at the thought of the class. She will do well. The course states the need for a laptop, but we will see if that is the case once the course gets into the flow.

Math Teachers
I've had great math teachers through my high school years and college. I only hope that my children have the same or better, but not like this...

New School Year
It is finally the beginning of the new school year. We woke up this morning in a mad rush - cooking breakfast (bacon, eggs and biscuits), making lunches and all the normal routines. This is Ethan's first year of school. No more watching the girls get on the school bus. He used to make sure the girls got ready in the mornings and hurried them out the door saying "Come on, girls!" when the bus was coming. Now they all have to work together to get on the bus in the morning. Here are a few pictures to show of the morning of the first day of school.

Help!!!!!
Wendy and I were watching a show tonight after the kids had gone to bed...then suddenly we heard the bedroom door open. We hear the pitter patter of feet run down the hall (which is not unusual because Katherine and Ethan wait too long to go to the bathroom and end up dancing in front of the toilet). Then a few seconds later we hear someone running up towards the kitchen and we see Ethan prancing like a horse and simply said "Help!" while running around the kitchen in a circle. I jumped up and escorted him to the toilet. From Wendy's previous experience, I SAT him down on the toilet instead of letting him stand up. That's another story for another day.

School is around the corner
Well, school is just around the corner and Wendy is shopping for school supplies one child at a time. She claims that it is less stressful and I guess it is. I come home from work and see bags and bags of stuff. Wendy has her trusty little sharpy handy and writing names on all supplies - one at a time, even each crayon. I am glad I didn't have to go through that when I was a kid. Ethan is skeptical about his first year of school, but we are trying to persuade him little by little. Sometimes he says he doesn't want to go. It will definitely be different this year. Three children will be in school and one at home. Wendy will be in school, too. She has four more classes to go. It should be a breeze for her. I wish there was a button I could push to keep her from stressing so much about school. She always does really well in her classes.
Jamie will be in the 4th grade, Katherine will be in the 2nd grade and of course Ethan will be in kindergarten. I usually don't go to work until all of them are on the bus the first day of every school year. We start out with a big breakfast and we take pictures of them by the wall to show their age and height. We also take a picture of them standing at the bottom of the driveway waiting on the bus and getting on the bus. I have to remember to give each of them a Father's blessing before the start the school year.
Wow, the summer passes so quickly. It always seemed that we were out for 3 months when I was little, but I could be wrong. Everything was slower and bigger back in those days anyway. I will make sure that I post a picture or two.

Family History
Hey Guys just wanted to let you know that I got on the new family history site tonight and tried to do some research, especially on Mom's side, and finally made some links to some ancestors that I knew were already out there. I still have to do some more linking later, but at least I've done this much. There are some more paths I need to try, too. If you haven't already looked at the new family search website, you need to do so, because it is really neat.
Journal Entry
Well, I decided to go ahead and make a blog like my brothers (or their wives) so that I could see what all the fuss was about ...and it was fun! It is a place where i can finally put pictures that we take and everyone can see them. I am still figuring it out but still have a long way to go.
Jamie along with other valiants, sang today in church. She sang real well. Jeffery still won't stay in nursery for a long period of time without making a major disturbance.
We just got finished with the Glenn Family Reunion. We had lots of fun and each family had their own color of shirts made. Our color was iris blue. Each shirt had on the front "In the Glenn Family... and on the back "Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city. That's why we have family reunions".
